I'm Mike Garrick, designer and creator of all things Bored Monkey UK. I live in a suburb of Southend-on-Sea with my wife Lynsey and our son Edward. 

 

Bored Monkey came to life whilst I was working as a global expert in scanning electron microscopy for an oil company. I would work away for months and be at home for weeks at a time - boredom set in. 

 

Whilst home I started creating art pieces in pyrography and graphic design. When we moved in 2016 I suddenly had a garage and an office to accommodate my ideas and creations. After purchasing a laser engraver (Lola - our showgirl) Bored Monkey became an actual business.

In 2017 I left the oil industry to start a family and make a go of being self-employed. Alongside lasering gifts and corporate contracts, I've worked as a handyman and custom-built and carved furniture, display units and kitchens.

As the business grows and I take over more of the house (Sorry Lynsey!) my ultimate dream is to have a garden workshop and to be working from home full time making gifts and working with beautiful materials.
